Professional Statement

Language and communication are at the heart of the human experience. Foreign language education broadens the intellectual perspectives, increases awareness of self and others, and encourages participation in a wider community.

I consider it essential and urgent that the cultural heritage of the German-speaking countries of Europe and their language not be lost among the German-speaking descendants in the United States. Wherever the public school system is not able to fulfill this task, the private language schools must fill a void. Yet, this formidable task cannot be achieved in isolation. It is my strong desire to strengthen the cooperation of the German language schools among themselves and with other institutions and persons and to create connections and opportunities that result in unique benefits for those who teach and for those who want to learn German.
