Children come in all sizes and shapes and so does their learning skills. Some children are visual learners; others are oral learners, kinesthetic learners, or a combination of all. In this group are the children who have a difficult time with learning no matter what their learning style is.
My presentation will be aimed at teaching children with special needs in the German school. As a teacher and educator for over 36 years I have come across many different children who have a difficult time with learning. For them this process called learning can be tedious at best as well as a painful experience. These children usually have and individual educational prescription (IEP), that is used in the regular school that has to be followed in order for the child to get the full benefit of his/her education. There will be those children who do not have an IEP, but still have learning difficulties. It is here that the problem may arise when they come to the German language school where they will learn German, but may have a hard time dealing with the structure of how it is presented. In my presentation I will go over types of learning difficulties and some ways to approach them in the German school. I will go over learning styles that will best fit this type of child, and finally some activities that will work well with them. Behavior problems can be a part of their learning disability and therefore this will need to be addressed as well.
I will have a power point presentation, overhead activities, activities to do with these children and hand-outs to give.
