Seminar
Information

The German Language School Conference offers two professional development seminars for teachers of German:

1. DACH-Landeskunde erleben und unterrichten • Konstanz • August 3 – 23, 2016

This professional development seminar is designed for K-16 teachers of German who would like to explore parts of Germany in an exciting and creative way. It provides insights into the history and culture of southern parts of the German-speaking area, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and helps participants stay abreast with the current events of the region. During the seminar, participants will develop teaching units on the cultural topics of the regions to apply to their individual teaching environments. The seminar is conducted in German and thus serves both as a refresher course in language and a course in history and civilization. An English or a German/English version of the seminar is available by request.

All participants receive a Certificate of Completion issued by the German Language School Conference (GLSC).

Participants will reside in a dormitory of the University of Konstanz. Day trips include Munich, Freiburg and the Black Forest, Meersburg, the Flower Island of Mainau, UNESCO World Heritage Reichenau Island (Germany), St. Gall, Zurich, Stein-am-Rhein, the Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen (Switzerland), and Kayserberg, Colmar, Strasbourg (France). Additional highlights are a cruise on the Rhine River and a cable-car ride to the top of the Ebenalp Mountain in the Swiss Alps.

Program Fee: $1,595.00, which includes all program expenses, housing and excursions.

Course fee: $250.00. The GLSC offers a limited amount of grants covering the course fee. The grants are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Application deadline: April 15, 2016. Application form can be downloaded here.
