Barbara Rellstab: Founder, Rella’s Spielhaus

Growing up in a theater family sparked her interest for the performing arts early on. After several stints at German Theaters, she went to ZHDK.ch, which at the time was under the direction of her late father, Felix Rellstab. After winning several performance-based grants and graduating as Valedictorian, Barbara performed 5 years a German and Swiss “Stadttheater”. In 1997 when Barbara came to New York, she performed extensively Off-Broadway, founded the International Department at the International Fringe Theater Festival, and taught voice and Gyrotonic.
When her son was born in 2009, Barbara sensed the need for a “Mommy and Me” Story Time Format in German. In 2011 Lieder & Geschichten (now Kinderklassen) was born. Today, together with Manhattan’s first German Language Immersion Day Care & Preschool Rella’s Spielhaus, along with her team she looks forward to growing together with the Bi-/Tri-lingual German families in the Tri-State Area.
Katherina Ritter: Geschichtenerzählerin

Mit fünf Jahren, konnte sie schon ganze Bücher auswendig. Heute tritt auf in nationalen and intrnationel Erzählfestivals. Sie erzählt wilde und gefährliche,
schöne und lustige Geschichten aus der berühmten Märchensammlung der Brüder Grimm undmehr. Katharina Ritter behauptet, sie hat den schönsten Beruf den
es gibt - Sie ist Geschichtenerzählerin. Sie reist mit ihren Märchen und Geschichten für das Goethe-Institut durch die ganze Welt - von Vancouver bis Borneo und Kasakhstan. Sie hilft mit ihrer uralten Kunst die deutsche Sprache anzubieten.
2006 wurde sie als beste Geschichtenerzählerin in Deutschland ausgezeichnet. Dazu gehört „ein natürlicher Umgang mit Sprache und ein Vertrauen in die Kraft der Worte.“ Auch wer die deutsche Sprache gerade erst lernt, wird erleben, wie viel man schon versteht, wenn man eine Geschichte erzählt bekommt.

Dunja Pechstein: Music Educator and Founder Musikgarten in Boston

Dunja Pechstein is a German native, professional musician and passionate music educator. She is the founder of Musikarten in Boston and has been teaching over
350 children in the greater Boston area for the past 12 years.
Her music and German language classes are an excellent way to immerse bilingual or multilingual child in the German language, music and culture. Research shows that the best way to learn any language is through immersion in an environment that is operating solely in the target language. Children are
innately drawn to music and therefore respond extremely well to learning and using a language through music.
